Took a screen shot of the Mac desktop and saved it in PICT format. 2. Renamed the files with PCT file extension. 3. Copied the files to a PC disk and loaded them into Corel Photo Paint (I would have used PSP but it did not support PICT :( 4. Cropped the icons and saved them as BMP files 5. Imported the BMP files into Microangelo 6. Saved them to disk (obviously!) 5. 256 COLOUR ICONS =================== I now have a program, Icon Colour Level, that will edit the following registry entries automatically. Double click it and check Show icons using all possible colours to use 256 colour icons! You can also give yourself 256 colour icons without any external program by modifying the following registry entries: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Config\0001\Display\Settings Look for a BitsPerPixel string. Then under: HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics add a string value: Shell Icon BPP and give it a value corresponding to the previous (16 or 24) NOTE: If there is no WindowMetrics key just add it; the single entry for Shell Icon BPP will work. 6. ICONS FOR BMP FILES ====================== To make BMP files have icons that are thumbnails of the bitmaps themselves, double click on: Icons for BMP files.reg or modify the following registry entry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Paint.Picture\DefaultIcon\ change the value of (Default) to %1 7. FIXING EXPLORER ICONS ======================== If you ever find that your icons don't show as they should in Explorer, try double clicking on: Fix Explorer Icons.reg This will restore the icon related entries in the system registry. 8. CONVERTING ICO FILES TO GIF/BMP FILES ======================================== 1. Get the icons that you want on screen 2. Press PRINT SCREEN 3. Load Paint Shop Pro (http://www.jasc.com) 4.
